How to Build an Empowering Morning Routine

The way you start your morning sets the tone for how the rest of your day will go. It's important that you have a consistent routine that will help catapult you into having a successful day. 

Mornings are difficult for a lot of people, however, handling them efficiently can be critical to having a productive day. 

According to Medium, when you accomplish things soon after waking up, however small the activity, your brain produces much-needed dopamine.

Insufficient levels of dopamine can lead to:

  • Depression
  • Loss of focus
  • Lack of motivation 
  • Reduced sex drive
  • Anxiety 

What is a morning routine? 

A morning routine is a set of actions that you do in the morning consistently before getting your full day started. 

What is your Why? 

"Why do I wake up" is one of the most important questions that you can ask yourself to give you the willpower to actually want to get up in enough time to tackle your morning routine. Knowing why you do what you do can provide you with the motivation you need to get going. 

  • Richard Branson gets going at 5:45 am to exercise and have an early breakfast.
  • Warren Buffett wakes up at 6:45 am and starts his day by reading the newspaper.
  • Elon Musk rises at 7 am and begins his day by tackling critical emails, and then gets his kids off to school, showers, and heads to the office.

If you commit to your morning routine every morning, you will for sure find that your days are more productive. You don't have to start with an extravagant routine. If it is overwhelming getting up and having a routine right away, try implementing one consistent thing you do every morning.
